Log Cabin Quilt

This quilt was used along with many others to help direct the slaves to Canada.  The black center square which was normally red was made for the slaves to let them know that the home was a safe haven for them to rest and eat on the long journey to freedom.  All the quilts would be hung on the clothes line or fence or put in the window.  The slaves would learn how to read these codes before they would escape.
